Sometimes one doesn’t need to look too far down the ratings, or to analyse them too closely to find the obvious selection.
I don’t think that there was a single member who wasn’t on this top rated horse. Available easily at 25/1 with the bookmakers and any price up into the thirties on the exchanges.
Carrig Cathal is value: pure and simple, the ratings gave it a 4/1 chance, i.e. 20%, of winning and anything over that was value. For most of us that was enough to be on it but those who wanted to look further and cherry pick this is still an obvious selection.
The underscore Raw value is ten pounds better than the next one. The RAdj is underscored. The Cls is underscored and a good 50% clear of the next one. The HCP is strong and enough to take note of just by itself. The WinF isn’t the highest rated in the race, but not far off and still good.
In fact, the only surprise is that I didn’t go in with a second bet on it.
Reading the race comments: Carrig Cathal won easily, pushed out by hands and heels only to win by almost three lengths.
