Total Recall and Blaklion are the two top favourites to win the 2018 Grand National race. Total Recall could end up being the top favourite by the beginning of the race, Willie Mullins as a trainer adds some special weight to the odds. Odds have shortened drastically on both contenders ever since the bookies begun to offer the market, better make your selection soon before they shrink even further.

Blaklion – 10/1

Age: 9 (Foaled April 3rd, 2009)
Sex: Bay Gelding
Breeding: Kayf Tara – Franciscaine (FR) (Legend of France (USA))
Trainer: N A Twiston-Davies
Owner: S. Such & CG Paletta

Blaklion has always been a top favourite for the National, but his bad starts this year raise some concerns despite his odds remaining high. During the Haydock trial the horse appeared exhausted after jumping the final fence and trotting to a 54 length defeat by Yala Enki.

The horse did not run in the Cheltenham Festival despite being one of the top candidates, this is what his trainer had to say:

“The ground got very heavy (at Cheltenham) and, as we all know, he’s got a wind problem and that ground wouldn’t help him, so we saved him for here.
“So long as we get good ground, we’ve a good chance.
“He’s won over four miles, so he just has to get another half a mile. Top weight isn’t ideal, but that’s the way it is and he’s a big horse, so hopefully he can carry it.
“He jumps well and keeps galloping, so the National was always at the back of my mind.”

Total Recall – 11/1

Age: 9 (Foaled March 15th, 2009)
Sex: Bay Gelding
Breeding: Westerner – Augest Weekend (Dr Massini (IRE))
Trainer: W P Mullins
Owner: Slaneyville Syndicate

Total Recall won his first three starts after partnering with Willie Mullins. He fell after three fences during the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but is unharmed and preparing for the Grand National.
