Kempton 4.15

By | 4th April 2017

There were, over the course of the day, a high number of Blindingly Obvious selections.
Some days there may be one, sometimes two but maybe often no selections at all.
Today there were six!
As ever all were in handicaps and this is one of the six and it gave up two selections.

The two to take note of were the top rated Plantaganet and the eighth rated Courtinthemiddle.
The case for Plantaganet is straight forward: top rated, Class Differential (both one year and five year) of 20.6 and a Weight Differential of 11.0. Clearly by far the best set of differential figures in the race.
Courtinthemiddle had good figures, not as good as the top rated’s, but still good with a Class Differential of 13.8 and a Weight Differential of 8.6.
Both of these were simple to spot from the above table. In the end Plantaganet gave up the race to come second to Courtinthemiddle who won at 16/1, though 25/1 was available easily enough early-doors. Plantaganet was 4/1.
It has to be said that not all selections do win. It would be great to say that they do but we had four other losers.
In the 5.15 at Southwell, Badger Run (4/1) was pulled up and Kirakin was second at 8/1.
This race was discussed on the Forum and it has to be noted that the 1 Year Differentials for Badger Run were less than the 5 Year figures. Perhaps this was showing that the horse has indeed peaked some time ago. But having said that, with the price available early at 30/1 it was good value.
The other races which produces other losing selections were the 3.15 Southwell in which Clean Cut came 7th at 8/1 and then in the 3.50, Chilli Lilli was 8th at 50/1.
At the end of the day there were these six selections and one winner at 16/1 and no-one can fail to be happy with that.
The ratings files for the two meetings have been posted into the Archives for those wishing to examine them further (Kempton and Southwell, respectively).
